Mercury Adsorbent for Water

MERCURY ADSORBENT
Mercury Removal from Liquid Water

PRODUCT INFORMATION

MERSORB® LW mercury adsorbent is a pelleted, steam-activated, coal-based activated carbon which has been sulfur impregnated to remove mercury from water. The activated carbon substrate has a high surface area & open pore structure to optimize its mercury capacity & adsorption kinetics in liquid water applications. This adsorbent removes 3 forms of mercury from water: elemental, ionic, & organomercury compounds. MERSORB® LW mercury adsorbent is typically supplied in the form of either 1.5mm diameter or 1.0mm diameter pellets (extrudate) which are strong, uniform in size & do not require backwashing, significant advantages vs. granular carbons.

APPLICATIONS: waste water, ground water, process water
AntiMercure® Process is commercially proven for achieving extremely low mercury concentrations in water: Treated water to < 0.050 ppBw Hg is achieved from water w/ 5-10 ppBw Hg. See Envir. Prog., Vol. 22, No. 3 (OCT-2003) “Achieving Low Mercury Concentrations in Chloralkali Wastewaters,” by Tonini, et al. Our Application Engineers can custom-design an AntiMercureTM Process Unit for your requirements, using MERSORB® LW mercury adsorbent. See Process Description: AntiMercureTM Process for recommended operating conditions.

CAUTION: Wet activated carbon removes oxygen from air. Thus, an asphyxiation hazard exists inside enclosed spaces containing activated carbon. Use appropriate safety precautions when entering vessels or other enclosed spaces containing activated carbon. Exposure to strong acids and oxidizers can cause formation of toxic H2S gas.
